Specialized Consultation & Assessment

Type Of Service

Outpatient Clinic - Mental Health

Program Description

Algoma Family Services (AFS) provides psychological assessment, consultation, and intervention for active AFS clients, referring staff and involved collateral agencies regarding serious children’s mental health issues. Services are accessed through the treating AFS mental health clinician or through established protocols with community collaterals. Services are provided at each AFS office throughout the District of Algoma, and in both official languages. AFS does not provide assessments where the primary concern may be solely learning disability or intellectual disability. Through community protocols, AFS provides on-site consultation at the Sault Area Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Unit, at the request of a child psychiatrist or pediatrician.

Access Information

Services are primarily accessed through the child’s/youth’s Algoma Family Service (AFS) mental health clinician, or by psychiatrist/pediatrician referral while inpatient at the Sault Area Hospital Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Unit.
