About Our Initiatives

Over the past several years, ConnexOntario has reached out and formed various initiatives with key stakeholders in the education, justice, and health sectors. Discover resources and services for youth mental health, eServices for organizations, Ontario Provincial Forensic Bed Registry and more.

Youth Mental Health

Bridging the child/youth and adult mental health service systems, ConnexOntario has collected information on more than 700 on- and off-campus mental health programs available to Ontario's post secondary students. ConnexOntario is also involved in several key mental health and addictions initiatives aimed at the post secondary education sector, including the Good2Talk Helpline, and the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health initiative.

Post Secondary Mental Health Initiative

ConnexOntario, along with various partners, is involved in an initiative to create a service to address the addiction and mental health concerns of Ontario's post secondary student population. This service will address current service gaps for students through innovation, information, engagement, and education, and support post secondary providers with information on services throughout Ontario.

Good2Talk - Ontario Post Secondary Helpline

What is Good2Talk?

Operated by four partners including: ConnexOntario, Kids Help Phone, Ontario 211 and the Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions; Good2Talk is a toll-free, and confidential helpline funded by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Good2Talk offers Ontario's post secondary students professional counselling, mental health and addictions information, and connections to local resources. The Good2Talk services are available to students 24/7/365, in both English and French.

In addition to providing students with information regarding on-campus supports (from financial aid offices and sexual health centres, to ombudsman and counselling offices), Good2Talk is able to provide referrals to hundreds of off-campus services, including mental health and addiction services, housing supports, and legal and community health services.

ConnexOntario and Good2Talk are integrated: ConnexOntario provides the system navigation and information component, ensuring accurate and timely information regarding mental health and addiction programs and services that can be accessed in Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Forensic Bed Registry

The Ontario Provincial Forensic Bed Registry is a secure, private application developed to improve access to the forensic mental health system for those awaiting assessment and long-term care, and those who are admitted into the provincial forensic hospital system. ConnexOntario operates and hosts the registry, which was re-developed and launched on April 1, 2008.

Working In Mental Health

In early 2009, ConnexOntario, at the request of the MOHLTC, began hosting this website that is a convenient, no-cost place for employers in the mental health sector to post vacant positions. As well, individuals seeking employment in the sector are able to post their résumés and review available job postings.

Partnerships

Over the past several years, ConnexOntario has established informal and formal partnerships with key stakeholders in the justice, education, and health sectors.

Health Connect Ontario

Health Connect Ontario is a free, secure and confidential service Ontarians can call or access online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to receive health advice from qualified health professionals, such as registered nurses, locate health services and find trusted health information. Health Connect Ontario features one website: Ontario.ca/healthconnectontario, and one number to call: 811.

ConnexOntario's partnership with Health Connect Ontario facilitates the proper streaming of individuals to the addictions and mental health services they require. As a result of this partnership, when a person contacts Health Connect Ontario with a mental health or substance abuse issue, Health Connect Ontario nurses can “warm transfer” the call by introducing the caller directly to a ConnexOntario system navigation specialist.

Metrolinx

In partnership with Metrolinx, signage displaying the Mental Health Helpline toll-free number is posted at railway stations, crossings, platforms, and bridges along the GO Transit and TTC corridors. Metrolinx is the Crown agency that manages and integrates road and public transport in the Canadian province of Ontario, specifically in the Golden Horseshoe region and Ottawa.

Ontario Telemedicine Network

Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) and ConnexOntario have collaborated on a project specific to identifying the locations of the telemedicine capabilities and programming at Ontario's mental health and addictions treatment organizations. This allows for easy identification of facilities that can support video conferencing for clients around Ontario.
