Program Description

Inpatient tertiary care for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.

Individualized shared care plans are developed based on client goals. A focus on strengths and hope is sustained to work with clients towards increased independence and reintegration to community. Creating a healing environment to promote health and enrich the lives of people living with mental illness and addictions. The team uses holistic approach including health and wellness, group and individual therapies.

Access Information

Preferred that referrals be made by a psychiatrist or family physician.

Adult Criteria:
- Axis 1 predominant diagnosis - Severe and Persistent Mental Illness; has not responded to less intensive intervention; requires specific intensity and continuity that can only be provided in the Specialized Mental Health Inpatient Program; medically stable; and client motivated to attend groups and engage in therapy.

Seniors Criteria:
- Older adults exhibiting any of a broad range of affective, cognitive, or behavioural symptoms (usually representing a significant negative change from their previous levels of functioning) may be considered for admission to this tertiary care regional service.

Note: While most individuals receiving services from the program are over 65 years of age, services are also provided to those under 65 if they have an age-related mental health issue.
