Step-by-step instructions for making our website more accessible

As part of the Government of Ontario's website accessibility guidelines, ConnexOntario is committed to supporting the needs of all residents of Ontario.

The following is a list of suggested modifications that can be made to various operating systems and browsers to further help access this website.

Change text size

GOOGLE CHROME

  1. Click the Chrome Menu on the browser toolbar
  2. Select Settings
  3. At the bottom of the page, click Show advanced settings
  4. In the Web Content section, use the Font size drop-down menu to make adjustments

INTERNET EXPLORER

  1. On the menu at the top, click View, then hover over Text size
  2. Select the text size that is desired.

FIREFOX

  1. Press the Alt Key
  2. On the menu at the top, click Tools, then go to Options
  3. On the top bar, select the Content option
  4. Under Fonts & Colors use the drop-down menu to select the desired font size

SAFARI

  1. Click the View icon on the top menu
  2. Select the option labelled Zoom Text Only
  3. Click the View icon and select Zoom In
  4. Please note that this step may need to be repeated, until you reach your desired text size

OPERA

  1. Click the Opera icon on the top left of the window
  2. On the menu, click Settings then Preferences
  3. A new window will pop up. Click the Advanced tab
  4. Click the Fonts option found on the left-hand navigation page
  5. Click the button labelled Choose
  6. Select the desired font size under the Size option

Change fonts

GOOGLE CHROME

  1. Click the Chrome Menu on the browser toolbar
  2. Select Settings
  3. At the bottom of the page, click Show advanced settings
  4. In the Web Content section, click Customize Fonts, use the drop-downs to select desired fonts

INTERNET EXPLORER

  1. On the menu at the top, click Tools, then click Internet Options
  2. Select the General tab, then click Fonts

FIREFOX

  1. Press the Alt Key
  2. On the menu at the top, click Tools, then go to Options
  3. On the top bar, select the Content option
  4. Under Fonts & Colors use the drop-down menu to select the desired font

SAFARI

  1. Click the Safari menu, then select Preferences
  2. From the top bar, click Appearance
  3. Select the standard font that should be used

OPERA

  1. Click the Opera icon on the top left of the window
  2. On the menu, click Settings then Preferences
  3. A new window will pop up. Click the Advanced tab
  4. Click the Fonts option found on the left-hand navigation page
  5. Click the button labelled Choose
  6. Select the desired font under the Font option

Mouse pointer visibility

Microsoft Windows (Vista/7/8.x)

  1. Click the Windows Icon
  2. Navigate to the Control Panel and select Mouse
    Please note, on some versions of Windows this selection is found under either the Printers and Other Software or Hardware and Sound option
  3. Select the Pointer Options Tab under Visibility
    • Option 1: Select Display Pointer Trails. Trails make the pointer easier to see when you are moving it
    • Option 2: Select the Show location of pointer when you press the CTRL key to find the pointer more easily when it is not in motion

Mac OS

  1. Click the Apple Icon
  2. Select to System Preferences
  3. Locate and click the Universal Access icon
  4. Select the Mouse & Trackpad tab
  5. Locate the slider next to Cursor Size and adjust it to your desired size

Change colours (High Contrast)

Microsoft Windows (Vista/7/8.x)

  1. Click the Windows Icon
  2. Select All Programs, then Accessories and finally Ease of Access
  3. Select the Make the computer easier to see option
  4. Under High contrast, select Choose a High Contrast color scheme.
  5. In the Appearance Settings dialogue box, under Color Scheme, choose the High Contrast color scheme you want, and then click OK.

Mac OS

  1. Click the Apple Icon
  2. Select to System Preferences
  3. Locate and click the Universal Access icon
  4. Select the Seeing tab
  5. Adjust the contrast and color settings under the Display Heading

Magnify screen

Microsoft Windows (Vista/7/8.x)

  1. Click the Windows Icon
  2. Select All Programs, then Accessories and finally Ease of Access
  3. Click Magnifier to open the Magnifier Settings dialogue box. Adjust the level of magnification by typing a number from 1 to 9, or by selecting the arrow button to open the list of options from the drop-down menu

Mac OS

  1. Click the Apple Icon
  2. Select to System Preferences
  3. Locate and click the Universal Access icon
  4. Select the Seeing tab
  5. Under the Zoom Heading heading select On
  6. Click Options and adjust the zoom level as desired

Browse out loud (Windows Narrator)

Microsoft Windows (Vista/7/8.x)

  1. Click the Windows Icon
  2. Select All Programs, then Accessories and finally Ease of Access
  3. Select Narrator to start the Windows Narrator utility.
    Please note, a dialogue window for the Windows Narrator tool will now be on your screen. Closing this Window will also close this tool

Mac OS

  1. Click the Apple Icon
  2. Select to System Preferences
  3. Locate and click the Universal Access icon
  4. Select the Seeing tab
  5. Under the VoiceOver heading select On
