Crisis Intervention
Crisis intervention for individuals who are experiencing acute mental health problems that cannot be addressed by other services or informal support systems. Clinical Services provided in the PES include: assessments of patients with acute crises; collection of collateral information; evaluation of patient's mental status to determine necessity and benefit of hospitalization; assessment of patients' risk to themselves and others; referral to inpatient and outpatient mental health services and community resources; interventions aimed at minimizing acute crises; crisis intervention and supportive psychotherapy; emergent and urgent pharmacotherapy; education regarding diagnosis, prognosis and treatment for patients, family members, and health professionals; virtual follow up service (1-3 contacts) for patients requiring close monitoring and bridge supports until the patient is able to connect with outpatient services.
Individual access is through the Emergency Department. Physician referrals accepted by phone.
