The program sessions incorporate various therapies: cognitive-behavioural, reality, rational emotive therapy, and we teach AA/12-Step Programs. The co-dependent program is designed for individuals who feel they have been affected by someone else's substance use (either during their childhood or adult years).
Individuals who identify as an "Alcoholic" or "Addict" are required to have 1 year of sobriety before being eligible for the program. Individuals must be sober from alcohol for seven days and two weeks for drugs prior to admission and must maintain contact with intake worker on a weekly basis. Most assessments are done by referral sources such as assessment and referral offices. Under some circumstances the assessment tools are given to an individual upon arrival. If referred to Westover, and if they meet the criteria, individuals are put on a waiting list. Appropriate paperwork is completed at the assessment and referral office. Individuals outside of Southwest catchment area need to have an assessment from a referring organization in their own region. Individuals can self-refer.
