Bed-Based Treatment - Substance Use

Program Description

Residential Treatment provides long-term treatment for substance use (drugs, alcohol and tobacco) while working with each individual on other determinants of health specific to the individual. This comprehensive program includes intake/screening and referral, residential treatment and case management.

Phase One: The first five weeks include: effective communication, and communication styles, challenging older ways of thinking, fitness and nutrition, stress management, insomnia, the brain and overdosing, happiness principles, recovery maintenance, process addictions and compulsions, emotion regulation, anger management, mindfulness, balanced living, and relationships.

Phase Two: The focus of Phase Two (five weeks) of our program is centered on relapse prevention: trauma, stages of change, family of origin, assertive refusal skills, men in recovery, coping with cravings and triggers, managing persistent psychological problems, identifying relapse warning signs, changing self-defeating thoughts/behaviors, "ABC" problem solving, cognitive distortions, self-sabotaging, recovery goals, other addictions (gambling, eating disorder, co-dependency, art therapy, etc.).

Access Information

Assessments are required to be completed by the referring organization. Individuals in the Ottawa area who need an assessment will be directed to Access MHA. Individuals outside of the Ottawa area must complete a GAINS Q3 assessment with an organization in their area. There are other forms of assessment, beyond the MOH-approved standardized assessment tools, required to access this program, which Serenity House will perform. Please do not send assessment packages prior to the individual contacting the organization.

Urinalysis is mandatory. Abstinence is required from alcohol and drugs, and individuals who use tobacco or vaping products are required to become part of our STOP program and use Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) with the goal of quitting during treatment. There is zero tolerance for violence towards, self, others or property. Individuals cannot work for the duration of program due to intensity of program.
