Outpatient Clinic - Mental Health
This program provides psychiatric consultation and treatment for adults with developmental disabilities and serious mental illness residing within the catchment area of North Bay Regional Health Centre.
Provision of care is based on individual needs and informed consent.
This program strives to optimize the quality of life of individuals with dual diagnosis in the community through the process of comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment, enhanced independence or interdependent community living and reduce the need for hospitalization or institutional care.
Individuals can be referred to the program by their family physicians or by contacting the Developmental Disabilities (Dual Diagnosis) Outreach Worker.
Specific Dual Diagnosis program admission criteria includes:
- being referred for a diagnostic assessment or review of medication/treatment plans
- has a recognized developmental disability of a mild to profound severity and exhibits behaviours that may be attributable to a mental illness
- have a diagnosis within the autistic spectrum disorders and is not adequately supported by local generic mental health services
- must provide consent before assessment can occur
