Program Description

The Youth Mental Health Court Worker (YMHCW) provides supports to Youth Justice Court for youth with mental health needs. The worker establishes effective linkages between the youth in conflict with the law, the Youth Justice Court and appropriate community mental health, and youth justice resources. The YMHCW functions as a short-term "bridge" between these systems to reduce barriers to youth accessing necessary mental health and ancillary services.

Access Information

Anyone can make a referral. No referral form is required. Diversion Program Criteria: charged in Simcoe County with a minor criminal offence, resided in Simcoe County at time of police incident, approved for diversion by Crown Attorney, willing to attend and participate in community support / treatment services. Court Diversion Program is a voluntary, pre-trial procedure. The goal is to minimize future involvement in the criminal justice system. With diversion there is no trial and no conviction.
