Diversion and Court Support - Mental Health
The Youth Mental Health Court Outreach Program provides services to address the needs of transitional age youth with mental health/ behavioural needs, who are involved with the criminal justice system. Youth that meet the criteria of the program will be diverted from the criminal justice system into the mental health system.
Youth will be linked to appropriate mental health services and other resources in the community to address individual client needs. The Youth Mental Health Worker works closely with youth justice personnel, including the Crown Attorney, Defence Counsel and Probation Officers. The youth and guardian (where appropriate) will be involved in treatment decisions.
The worker may also provide consultation for youth clients who are not diverted from the criminal justice system.
Referral is generally through the court.
A referral form is available. Individuals may also attend in person or call.
The service is offered to all youth having significant mental health issues who have come into conflict with the law.
