Public Awareness - Substance Use

Program Description

This program encourages youth between the ages of 12 to 17 to make informed and relevant decisions and to promote positive choices in their lives. Choices is a two hour group that meets for over 10 weeks. The program is delivered by the program coordinators along with volunteer coaches who provide positive role modeling, and support to youth.

Weekly topics may include: Communication; Decision Making; Goal Setting; Drugs and Alcohol; Coping Strategies/Cannabis; Taking Risks/Social Media.

Staff and volunteers use behaviour rehearsals, guest speakers, video clips, and interactive activities to illustrate weekly topics.

Access Information

Services can be accessed by youth in their schools under YRDSB and SCDSB. CHOICES' groups can also be delivered to youth in the community in partnership/collaboration with social service agencies/healthcare organizations/schools.
