Counselling and Treatment - Mental Health
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for pregnant and new mothers with babies up to 12 months of age, who have been feeling depressed, down, or anxious.
The Steps to Wellness program is an online, group-based CBT series where participants will meet weekly in the virtual group setting with public health nurses to learn skills, strategies and tools to help them manage their depression and anxiety. The Steps to Wellness program will provide women with the skills and tools they need to manage the symptoms of Perinatal mood disorders (PMD) and is of benefit to mothers and their families.
Self-referrals accepted. Call, email or fill out the online form. With client consent, professionals can refer individuals using the printable PDF or by completing the online referral form. Individuals can expect to be assessed by Public Health Nurses for program suitability. The 9-week series currently runs at various times throughout the year and referrals are accepted at any time.
Exclusion criteria: An individual has been diagnosed or has a current diagnosis of – bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, psychosis; has a current diagnosis or is receiving active treatment for PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) or substance use. Individuals must not be experiencing any frequent thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
Individuals must have access to reliable internet services to attend the virtual group.
