Counselling and Treatment - Mental Health
This program provides multidisciplinary assessment and treatment to individuals who are in conflict with the law for sexual behaviour and/or are concerned about sexual behaviours/interests involving paraphilias (atypical sexual interests) or that could lead to arrest. This can include, but is not limited to, sexual interest or involvement with:
• pre-pubescent and/or pubescent children;
• exposing to, touching, watching or rubbing up against unsuspecting people for sexual gratification;
• coercive or violent sexual interests;
• child sexual exploitation images (child pornography); or
• animals
The initial assessment consists of an interview and may include phallometric assessment or psychological testing. Treatment options can include therapy, referrals to other clinics/programs at CAMH, and a sex-drive reducing medication consultation with a psychiatrist.
Brief family support/psychoeducation is also provided to families of people who have been convicted of sexual offences or are engaging in sexual behaviours that could get them into trouble with the law
Individuals can self-refer or be referred by a physician or a probation/parole officer through Access CAMH. See website for referral forms.
