Eating disorders

Eating disorders are serious conditions related to persistent eating behaviours that negatively impact your health, your emotions and your ability to function in important areas of life. The most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder.

Counselling and Treatment - Mental Health
Specialized Diagnostic Assessment measures the severity of the eating disorder diagnosis. It consists of a structured interview based on the DSM-V criteria for eating disorders, followed by the administration of psychometric tests and medical assessment with the Nurse Practitioner. The Specialized Diagnostic Assessment is administered before and after each treatment. The Specialized Diagnostic Assessment is the first step and required prior to admission to treatment.

Intensive/Day Treatment - Mental Health
In partnership with the Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA), the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre, Teen Health site and Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) The Windsor Essex Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders (WEIOP) offers a variety of groups and individual sessions, along with supervised meal support to assist in one's journey towards achieving normalized eating. This is done by addressing both nutritional and psychosocial problems. This service has been developed to address the needs of individuals who require treatment for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other specified feeding or eating disorders.

The Regional Eating Disorders Program provides specialist outpatient eating disorders assessment and treatment to individuals and families. All participants of the eating disorder program need to be medically monitored either by their general practitioner or a nurse practitioner. Adults are offered treatment through a CBT-e (enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy) program. For individuals under the age of 17, an individualized treatment plan is devised involving CBT-e and family-based treatment.

The Regional Eating Disorders Program provides expertise in the assessment and treatment of children and youth who present with severe and complex eating disorders. The program includes an inpatient unit, a partial hospitalization program, a day treatment program and outpatient services. The day treatment program offers ten treatment spots. Services include medical and nutritional management, group therapy and therapeutic milieu, and meal support.
