Weechi-it-te-win Familly Services was founded as an “Anishinaabe Alternative” and continues to envision the revilalization of a system of child care that is root in the customs, traditions and values of the Anishinaable people of Treaty #3.
Services provided by Weechi-it-te-win Family Services include: child care, alternative care, family preservation, psychological services, capacity building, family counselling, outpatient treatment for families, developmental support service, cultural support and youth in transition services. These services are available to members of the 10 (ten) First Nations residing in the Kenora/Rainy River District in North western Ontario. In accordance with the original vision of our founding fathers, Weechi-it-te-win’s child welfare and family preservation funding has been devolved to each of our 10 (ten) First Nations and as such these services are delivered at the community by the community.
It is also our sacred responsibility to repatriate children who have been brought into care outside of Weechi-it-te-win’s jurisdiction and reunite them with their families, communities and culture.
For Weechi-it-te-win Family Services and the ten Community Care Programs, Naaniigaan Abinoojii is our central thought and purpose. “The child’s best interest is always First and Foremost”; it is always of paramount consideration
Weechi-it-te-win Family Services programs fall into two streams. Mandated services include Naaniigaan Abinoojii and Investigation and Abuse Services.
The Nanaandawewenin services are non-mandated programs. The Family Healing Program is one of the Non-mandated Services provided by Weechi-it-te-win Family Services. Other services in this stream include: Devolved Programs and Services, Clinical Services Coordination, tele-mental Health Programs, Children’s Mental Health 0 – 18, Youth in Transition Program, WFS Main Office Family Counselling Unit, Cultural Coordinator, Agency Trainer and Developmental Support Services Program.
